Drug candidate to be global success
21-07-2008

Companies:

NeuroSearch is after a global market registration of a potential drug candidate against Huntington’s disease, which will probably be ready for the market in 2010. A new admission card to carry out clinical trials in the USA is therefore a big step in that direction.

“It is definitely a fine seal of approval as the US authorities have very severe requirements. We consider this a product that can result in NeuroSearch breaking through the sound barrier and hopefully with a big bang,” explains general manager Flemming Pedersen in NeuroSearch.

The size of the market for the Huntington’s drug will almost entirely depend on the price as the disease belongs to the group of rare diseases and has less than 200,000 patients, writes Berlingske Business.

“Today we have no treatment for the disease. So consequently the price is very decisive. However, we see a product which may reach up to EUR ½-1 million annually. Consequently this is what we call a high profitable product,” says Flemming Pedersen.

Huntington’s is heritable and often hits entire families. It starts typically around age 30 and destroys the brain and all patients will end up needing full-time care. It is planned that the new drug will delay the progression of the disease.
