The first cut of turf for biotech park in Copenhagen
16-07-2008
Life science industries:
Copenhagen is to have its first through and through biotechnological research park in October 2009. The first cut of turf was taken on 1 July and the dream of an élite environment with regard to production and commercial exploitation of the latest knowledge within biotech, medico technique and pharma will now be a reality.
The research park named Copenhagen Bio Science Park COBIS will be located at Ole Maaløes Vej in Copenhagen and next to the new Biocenter at Tagensvej which accommodates BRIC (Biotech and Research and Innovation Centre), the University of Copenhagen’s Molecular Biological Institute and Hovedstadens Sygehusfællesskab’s (H:S) experimental cancer research units, writes idag.
Behind COBIS are the three most experienced research park operators in Denmark: Scion DTU located in Hørsholm and Lyngby, Symbion located at Østerbro as well as Research Park Aarhus which is operating a research park at two locations in Århus.
“People have had dreams, we have visited research parks north and south, east and west and all this led to a preliminary vision: COBIS is to be northern Europe’s best place to start a biotech company. The bar is raised to the top position and the driving force is excellent. With the interests that COBIS has, namely the community, hospitals, techtrans units, the region, the ministry, the future tenants, the universities etc., it is very realistic to have a dream with a highly placed bar,” explained the chairman of COBIS a/s Kim Høgh just before the three owners put the three-handled spade into the ground.
